I think that you should start by asking you friends if they already have karts..
Also, you haven't provided much information, such as:
1. Age
2. 2 or 4 stroke preference
3. Weight
4. Experience
5. Spannering capabilities
6. Area of country where you live, as this can dictate what circuits are available.
7. Budget for running costs

The list goes on.
