Isn't it rather difficult to over advance the timing due to the fact that the magnet is on a key way and the blue stator is mounted on four non adjustable screw holes.

How did they test this 'over advance'?

You can't accurately test a timing spark statically, you need some sort of reference point to measure it from and use an oscilloscope or a timing strobe.

You would have to move the slot in the magnet or doctor the key to advance the magnet timing. Alternatively open up the holes in the blue stator to be able to advance it.
