We run a Tonykart and have competed at two meetings a month all year. We have had three nosecone penalties during the year, but I consider my lad a clean driver.

From our point of view, OTK have got it spot-on as some accidental contact is forgiven but not hard contact. And, we have used the same front bumper all year so I don't think they are badly made. I can't speak for the other kart makes as we've not tried them.

So for us the new system has been pretty good compared to the frankly diabolical circumstances pre-drop down nosecones, especially first corners.

In the main the drivers who bashed people about before the new system (either deliberately or otherwise) are the ones getting the most penalties, regardless of which chassis they are on. So again, the system seems to have worked.

I find it strange that people are demanding we introduce nosecones which are EASIER to knock in?! If you are experienced at kart racing (which most of you seem to be), surely you want a system which in the main allows some accidental gentle contact, but stops the idiots from loading people up or generally bashing their way around?

If they are easier to knock in then we will face more drivers coming in after racing their hearts out only to face an unfair penalty for a small accidental contact.

Maybe the other manufacturers should have been asked to follow OTK's lead as they understood exactly what was trying to be achieved and acted absolutely in the spirit of good karting.
