With apologies to Alan for the thread hijack.
These threads make me cry in frustration. If it's all so easy, why don't you become a clerk, put something back in the sport and help mould future generations of drivers? "Clerks", "Clubs", "Observers", "Marshals". They're not an independent super-race from Planet MSA. They are ordinary blokes and lasses who want to help out in the sport they love, possibly ex racers or "dads" who want to stay involved when their offspring has moved on.
I've 20 years experience of race directing at a commercial kart centre plus a lifetime of organising car motor sport at club level, but I would never, ever put myself forward as a kart clerk. Why? Because of the dog's abuse I'd receive both at the track and here on social media afterwards. I'm sure many people feel the same and that's why there aren't enough officials on track - because you've scared them off. Yes, YOU, you who argued with the clerk (with or without your money down), you who've belly ached about decisions in the paddock and then on social media.
They say charity begins at home. So does discipline. If everyone who complains about declining driving standards offered to observe say one race per day their driver isn't involved in, either they'd find out how hard it is and shut up on forums for ever or standards would genuinely improve.
It's quite obvious why the MSA needs to de-skill race clerking. Because there aren't enough people to go round. Because you've stopped us as potentail clerks enjoying the sport so why bother? Hats off to the boys and girls that are prepared to take it on, you have my support!
Rant over!
