You have a number of options
1) Put a camera on the kart during test days and review where he is braking and the amount

2) Pressure is key in braking not stamping. Stamp you lock miss apex therefore reducing exit speed.

3) The amount of travel you have on the brake itself before it actually works, Try moving the amount of adjustment you have.

Most kids will adapt braking depending on confidence in turn in of the kart , so don't just rely on the brake being your prime issue
