I wind the 1D in and stop just before the bit that breaks off reaches the edge of the thread.

Try and support the Helicoil as you give the break off a sharp tap.

If you don't support it there can be a tendency to jump a coil out and it stretches so you can't flick it back in.

A Dremel or grinder is useful to trim the excess that can be left on the bead side.

If you Araldite the Helicoil in, go gentle with the Dremel so as not to overheat the glue.
