Peter Griffin will be at the Dunkeswell club meet this month if you want a chat- he is easy to find and will be spannering that weekend. He races Senior Rotax now after racing from cadets. Pop in the VisionMotorsport Awning at Whilton Mill and speak to Daryl Burgess - he's done it got the T shirt and now runs a team but is good for advice- there are some dads in the awning who will also be good for a chat.
If you want to talk visit on a Saturday as there is more time.
Don't buy anything until you have done your homework, and spoken to dads, kartshop, teams, mechanics and had a good look at local circuits. Listen to their advice then make your own mind up. I would say don't buy anything from ebay unless you know what you are looking at.
If you start racing whatever the budget you will always spend more. The first thing you should buy though is a new decent helmet- not cheap- but worth every penny.
