I would say that a stub axle is too short to show any deviation, I would recommend a 1m rear axle nothing bent and nothing shorter. As a rule we used to calibrate lasers over 100m, but all clarity would be lost unless you did it at night time you may find your laser dot disperses at 20 m. So over 1m and under 5m would serve your purpose. When you use a longer bar you are more likely to get a sagg in the bar.
