Wet tyres need to be mounted in the correct rotation because of the way they throw the water out. If the sipes are pointing the wrong way they won't work.

I used to run slicks swapped on the front of my Sports 2000 because the only time they got real stress was under the reverse loads of braking. Or so the theory ran at the time.

The Pirelli F1 thing was slicks not wets.
