There are basically two types of racing, IKR and MSA.

IKR are certainly NOT pirates though.

We all know where the real pirates are :)

Let him try out on corporate karts so that you know you both enjoy it, them you can think about buying your own kart that is suitable for the classes that are run locally.

Too many people rush in and buy the first thing they find and it ends in disappointment.
