What has happened is that the oil companies have been researching ways to give the same 'lubrication' while using less viscous oils because they uses less fuel. Without the concern for fuel saving, we'd probably still be using 20-50w.

Are you aware of any research or change in the formulation of WD40 over the past (let's guess) 40 years to ensure that they can give the same 'protection' from a 'thinner' formulation....? (the answer is: No! or it would now be WD41 or above!)
