Pegassuss

This matter comes up regularly so, years ago, one of our guys contacted a lubricant specialist... who was frankly STAGGERED that we asked.

His view was 'you must be joking!'.

Yes, it says 'lubricant' on the tin... but... Kelloggs print "content may have settled in transit" and we all know what THAT really means, too!

Again, strictly, water is brilliant 'lubricant' ..... but not too good as an additive to petrol to replace our two stroke oil! You are supposed to use the right lubricant for each specialised task. One size definitely doesn't 'suit all' in our circumstances.

The crux of the 'specialist's' comment was that bearings need their lubricant to remain between the moving surfaces when under 'load'. Greases have this property built into them, WD40 certainly doesn't. Thus greased bearings effectively 'float' on a layer of lubricant between the moving surfaces but WD40 has no such property and certainly will NOT under the sort of load we deliver to them. Under load, your bearings will be 'metal to metal' if you only use WD40.

Obviously, it's your kart and your bearings and you may do anything you want to them. However, the advise of an 'expert' was..... don't!
