Not all health professionals would recommend wearing a neck brace. I have a friend who is a Consultant in A&E who has a son doing motocross and one doing karting. The motocross lad wears a leatt type neck brace but the karter does not. He said that for motocross there is ample evidence that the neck brace helps prevent serious injuries but the crashes are very different from karting ones. Based on crashes he has seen, he felt that wearing a leatt type neck brace could increase the chances of braking a collar bone but had not seen anything to suggest that it would help pevent injuries. Having said that he would not make a professional recommendation one way or the other because he has not found any convincing evidence for wearing them but it is possible that in a specific crash they might help.
