David..... let's deal with this once and for all!
Where Pole man is the FASTEST kart on the track, particularly on acceleration, AND the first corner is wide enough NOT to need slowing-down:-
1) Can you tell me HOW it's possible for Grid 3 (or any OTHER following grid to 'LOAD' the pole driver into the first corner... when he can't even CATCH him???? Please answer this accurately and fully. The correct answer is 'He Cannot!'!
2) Please explain how SS races will make a difference to the example 1. Please answer this accurately and fully. The correct answer is 'It it cannot POSSIBLY make any difference!'!
3) If all the karts are EXACTLY EQUAL at coming off the start line (SS or RS)..... in the above track (not slowing 1st corner).... can you tell me HOW the poleman C*A*N be loaded.... when all the karts are accelerating equally???? The correct answer is 'HE CANNOT'!
4) Now, keep the karts the same as in 1, 2 and 3 but alter the TRACK so that poleman needs to BRAKE for the first corner....... how will SS or RS make ANY difference to whether kart 3, 5, 7. etc. can RAM the lead karts REGARDLESS of if they are faster/equal to or even a tiny bit slower than pole.... simply by DELIBEARTELY NOT BRAKING??? The correct answer here is: "so long as the 'following' kart is REASONABLY fast, absolutely NOTHING will prevent him from being able to RAM poleman: RS or SS makes ZERO difference here"!
5) Tell me what you expect to happen in a standing start race if poleman stalls on the line where the track is already a restricted width. Grid 3 may see the non-start of pole as may grids down to 7 etc. (for example), and they can swerve to avoid him...... However, amidst the cloud of inevitable smoke, with Grid 9 and beyond, who are ALL involved with their own start, desperately trying to beat the parallel grid driver..... what happens when they have got 3-abreast by the start line....... and one of them is now presented with NO chance of swerving off line and a STATIONARY poleman directly ahead of him....?
This is NOT esoteric.... again, I have been in that EXACT situation in an SS race! Luckily, I was not the one facing the stalled kart and I was able to swerve HARD left to give my parallel kart enough room to avoid the stationary pole man. If I hadn't seen the situation developing and hadn't been able to assist, then poleman would have been 'visited' by an EXTREMELY rapid kart up the AR*E! And those sort of accidents ARE severe and PAINFUL!
Just watch the Riccardo Palletti accident (on Youtube) all those years ago to see the REAL effect. Yes..... it's rare...... but it's LETHAL!
You MAY have reasons why these examples are over-ridden by other improvements in safety with SS but the above question/answers are IRREFUTABLE, as is the LOGIC!
