I took part in the IKR meeting at Llandow on Sunday and I'm pleased to say it went very well, helped by great weather and some wonderful people. I believe a report on the day will be available with the results shortly.
There is one thing I took away from that event though and that is that IKR and MSA racing can happily exist together and even compliment eachother. As club level MSA racing becomes more 'professional' it was clear that this has created a void in grass roots karting. The de-regulation and low cost brought in a demographic that previously had nowhere to race. The vast majority of these people would never have raced MSA, instead sticking to practice days or even leaving their equipment in the garage. We saw karts on roof racks, karts that hadn't seen the light of day for 5 years, drivers who left the sport years ago coming back and drivers who bought cheap packages from the market place here, just for this event. First corner incidents were limited to one or two having their own little moments on cold tyres.
Right now I see no reason for conflict between IKR and MSA and believe that both have a role to play in the development of the sport and ensuring owner/driver karting has a bright future. MSA racing is great for many but for others there is a growing alternative.
