This is what Karting for people with mobility issues in karting should be called, not racing with a D on a black plate on the back of the kart.If anything needs to point out the drivers mobility issues,it should be an "E" for Enabled. It has #issed me off now for a number of years seeing Brian Roberts having to race able bodied drivers and beat them regularly (2nd place Chkrc Rotax Masters 2013) with a black D plate on the back alongside his race no,no one gives him any special treatment nor does he expect it ,rant on that over. I having known Brian and others in his situation for a number of years I have and been involved with making special controls for enabling people with disabilities to have a go mainly in little buggies for kids, karts , and even a racing car. Partly due to Brian's outlook and people seeing his on track success in the North,I have been approached regarding converting a cadet kart for such a situation. Replying to a wanted ad for an Alfano it turned out it was for KARTFORCE which is karting for service people, some with terrible injuries. They have developed a steering wheel to help cover most adaptions required to race a kart although they at the moment are mainly karting in Pro Kart Endurance Racing, and like Brian are winning !! see their Website. To this end they and myself should be able to convert a kart for anyone with a mobility issue to get on track so if anyone neeeds help, contact myself or KARTFORCE. Their newest team KARTFORCE NORTH will be racing at Three Sisters Endurance meeting in Feb so please come along and support them, see what these guys who have given so much for us have had to overcome and have been helped by the sport we all take paticipating in, for granted.
