At long last found time to sort my licence renewal for next season only to be face with bill after bill. Firstly the doctors didn't have a colour blind chart and haven't for about 5 years so I had to go to an optition to have a full eye test so that was Ł29:95. So back to the surgery to complete the form which they do for me and give me a bill for Ł48! I then add the details of payment for the licence Ł36. So a grand total of Ł114!

Surely this is bizarre when to drive my car on the road I don't need a medical every year (over 45) especially when the medical doesn't really tell you anything other than you have 2 arms and legs and can see out of both eyes? In these tough times can we not do a self declaration or have a medical every 5 years or so? On another tack can we not have licences that last 12 months rather than a calendar year? At the moment it costs the same if you want to race for 12 months or just the one. Also if it were 12 months and thus had an expiry date you could plan the spend a bit better. Also newcomers to the sport who want to race from September onwards would have a little time before the next big bill.

Any thoughts?
