Hi,

My son Harry was in exactly the same position at the beginning of this year. We were 7kg over in Honda Cadets. He turned 11 in May and as soon as he did we moved up to JTKM. We have now done 6 meetings at Kim and the same at Ellough and we haven't even spent close to Ł1500 on tyres so Ł3000 is a bit wide of the mark. The main cost is on the chassis (we went for a 2012 Tony Kart) and the engine. We paid all in about Ł3000 for a complete set up and spares etc. There is a grid over 30 plus every month at Kimbolton so it's a good event. In all honesty, my son is 11.5 years old and he might be a bit young to be racing 15 and 16 year olds but he is within a second of the leader most meetings and is making his way.
