The Live timing element is a feature of the software.
The transponder sends out a unique digital code every milli second which gets picked up by the receiver wires and decoded. This is exactly what the AMB system does. The only difference is that Mylaps have been a bit lazy and not developed thier software which is where Alpha Timing have stepped in to add extra functionality.
We have to pay Ł130+ for tyres that last one meeting and pay extra because it has to have a yellow barcode and we are forced to pay a contribution to S1 (Silly one) so now we are forced to buy/hire a new transponder to race anywhere decent. Costs are marginal for normal folk and without 'clubbies' at meetings there will only be small grids for the elite and Karting dies (look what happens at GYG after S1 ).
We only get ripped off because we allow it to happen!( why is fuel in states less per gallon than we pay per litre?)
By the way I'm not having a go at Whilton my only gripe is that they didn't consult their members.
