Since we're not discussing cheating then someone may as well say that the "certain chassis" is a Tonykart. The fact that other chassis are successful throughout Europe and in other classes in the UK shows that you don't have to be on a Tonykart. Gravitating toward a particular chassis happens in most classes though; not necessarily because it's better, but because it removes one more variable. Using this argument as a basis for not racing Rotax is flawed because everyone can get a Tonykart if they think that's what it takes to win.

Regarding the "certain engine builder", this is less clear to me. I think the implication is Cream engines, but I'm sure Ogden, Force, Grice, Supertune et al would question that assumption. I think the results over the last few years show that most engine builders have good engines.

Basically, with Rotax, you know that all the parts available to the winners are also available to you. Everything they do to win, you could do too. The same applies to basically all karting classes. There are no "special" parts (bespoke, not available to anyone else). It may be too expensive for many/most, but that's another discussion.

The top teams/drivers are winning because they generally do a better job. The drivers have more seat time and continuous coaching. The karts are better prepared. The years of data allows them to be closer to the optimum setup throughout a weekend.

Of course, Rotax still isn't as good as it could be. The seal adds nothing but cost. It does nothing to provide a more level playing field, it does nothing to reduce engine failures. All it does is substantially raise the costs of undertaking some fairly trivial maintenance work.

Having to select good barrels from bad is very expensive and very wasteful. Even if the seal has to stay, why not allow some machining to fiche which would make most barrels good enough.

From a driving perspective, they could put a smaller carb and proper exhaust on it. A proper airbox would be nice too but not vital.
