I still haven't got my head round the carb yet but we are going out at the weekend with the sole intention of learning as much as possible. The problem is simple - you get it to the ballpark (like with the tryton) but the driver can't make the final on track fine adjustments to optimise it. In that respect IMHO the carb choice makes no sense and the dellorto used on the super cadet version of the same engine would appear a better choice. Of the 3 carbs I have, they are literally streets apart in terms of jet positioning for optimum performance but once set they are very close to each other on the dyno. All of them use the 46g spring for the time being. I think I am confident in saying that by the end of the weekend I will have a decent understanding of these carbs and I won't have spent more than Ł300 let alone Ł5k.
