I have recently written to the MSA about the language Clerk's use at driver's briefings. No I don't mean being rude or swearing but the use of slang, anecdotal phrases like "you can't win the race at the first corner" and the terms "loading" and "contact".

Ambiguous ("in law") language simply has no place during what is a "legal" briefing to drivers and how many 8 - 15 year olds understand what "loading" means, even if they are listening.

The language used at the drivers briefing needs to be clear, concise and without any ambiguity.

EG:

"Drivers must leave space between themselves and the kart in front at all times and particularly at the first corner so as to avoid hitting or coming into contact with the kart in front"

"Drivers approaching the first corner must allow for the bunching of karts that will occurr and break earlier than normal"

"Contact means any part of your kart touching another kart. Under no circumstances is this permitted or acceptable and will result in penalties being applied"

"Driving across/into another kart forcing it to swere to avoid a collision is not acceptable and will be punished"

Unless the Clerk speaks in a clear and concise way and then follows through with threatened punishments nothing will change.

And don't get me staretd with Teams. I know the point about teams instructing drivers to "take drivers out" was recently discussed at a national COC meeting so I hope this is investigated further.
