A very well put together video. To answer the question posed in the type below the youtube video: Yes, and it always has been this way and probably always will be, and in all sports, and in all countries of the world. The comments I agree with above are from Graeme and Phil. Law of averages says that the best motor racing talent never even sees a kart track. Ayrton Senna was regarded by most people as a great driver but he started on a track built for him by his father in his own back yard. If he had been potless we would never have heard of him.
I know how people feel - it is so unfair! But it is life. Berating a father for spending 30K on his son for a year's karting is a bit disingenuous, as would be 60K or 100. Why? Because if we had millions we would all do the same or 'worse'.
It is the same in car racing right to the top. Just look at the lineup for GP2! I doubt it will ever change. You cannot stop people spending their own money on good equipment or practice, even if you consider it misguided. I guess when talent and financial backing coincide, the sky is the limit.
In F1 they have restricted testing to reduce costs, but this has resulted in a boom in simulator spending and a lot of inexperienced rookies on the track.
You all know that I speak from the exact same experience - Mike is very fortunate, but we are still under the financial cosh, which hits a bit more firmly these days..... In the class he is racing now, there are people with seemingly limitless funds - this will always be the case.
You just have to do your best with what you've got and ENJOY IT! It is like an addiction - difficult to stop.
