Surely if someone caused the accident, and considered at fault, he or she would be dealt with by the clerk afterwards and if justified then excluded or penalised. Otherwise the regulations in U.7.9 specifically this
"Abandon the race. In which case the race (result)
shall be declared as the order of finishing on the
last full lap completed and before the race was
stopped." It is not always necessary to go back a lap, it depends if everyone in the race not stopped has crossed the finish so a proper result can be obtained. In the case in question I suggest that needed to go back a lap. Circuit racing and long circuit have different rules for finishers of races, so the red flag rule is different in that respect, Q5.4.2
Only cars which are under their
own power at the showing of the Red Flag will be
classified.
