heres a great link on genny earthing arrangements depending on the type you have. if you link out the earth and neutral than you may be removing the protection of the genny as most have a floating earth, i think only the open frame type have the earth and neutral connected already requiring an earth stake as the neautral is generally linked to the frame from the windings of the transformer due to the potential of shock due to a fualt occuring within the genny and it not being double insulated, but dont quote me on that.
if you put in a link you will always have to use an rcd!
