I like the heats where the start numbers are effectively random, and would disagree that timed qualifying is a more effective learning method. It doesn't have to be carnage, and I learn a lot from seeing how long I can hang onto the back of a quicker driver.

We have one MSA meeting a year at Hooton where there is timed qualifying, and although it's safer due to less overtaking, it's much less interesting, and I tend not to learn as much.

The carnage isn't caused by the speed difference of the karts, it's caused by people driving into each other. When we don't do that, karting is a lot more fun and a lot cheaper. I try to avoid it where I can, and I am glad to say so have the vast majority of the people I've raced against.
