I'm all for timed qualifying. I've done MSA club meetings, just carnage.

I've recently started Indy Racing at Hooton where they have timed quali, then the fastest start at the front on the first heat, the results of the first heat decides the grid for the second heat and the results of the second heat decides the grid for the final.

The racing is much cleaner and you learn a lot faster. The racing is much more tactical and you can measure set up changes comparing yourself to the other racers, you cannot do that in mixed grid racing.

I couldn't care less if the spectacle is less interesting to watch, watching is free, racing isn't. From a drivers perspective it's much more enjoyable and you have a better chance of taking your kart home in one piece.
