Not directed at anyone in particular, but I hear the 2 stroke argument of its the next step out of cadets blah trotted out time and time again, and I have to say that even the most enthusiastic of its supporters are beginning to tire of it with the upcoming changes.

The engine builders and teams have done a first rate job of promoting this tosh in a pretty successful attempt of getting scores of parents to participate in one of the most expensive turd polishing exercise ever.

ND's painful and frustrating experience is reflective of awnings up and down the country and so with the changes afoot for next year who can blame him. Apparently the comer will be half a second slower than the Iame, and so the incentive is what exactly?

However let's say that by some miracle of the combination of cash, prayer and swearing over the limitations and mood of your mechanicals you've coxed your Comer into life, you've made it to the grid and you actually complete the final, how would that stack up against the Hondas?

The grids speak for themselves, at Rye its a 1 to 3 ratio. Times: At the last race there where the conditions where the same for both classes, overall time for the same number of laps, First in Comer would have got you seventh in Honda by the skin of your teeth. Speed: Fastest lap in a Comer would by the merest of margins of 1/100th of a second got you the fifteenth fastest against the Hondas, (behind two clubmans and a novice)

As the legal folk say, Res ipsa loquitor

And on the bizarre MSA thinking that they would want to make the other engines slower, when they can make the Iame faster. Kind of takes the whole "be the best" philosophy and adds, "but if you can't we'll do a deal so you will be".

(Yet despite all of that if you take a look at what the tuners can do to a GX160 for less than a £1000 you can have a GX160 that knocks out 20hp by swapping the parts inside for GX140 / 200 ones. Can you eek this much oomph out of the Comer or Iame as easily or inexpensively?)

Seem like a bunch of bottom to go through this simply because the next level of karting is two stroke. When X% of kids don't go to the next level. When X% actually want to be in cars asap, (do you see many two stroke cars these days?, When if you do go to a two stroke class the chassis / wheels / geometry is different, so who cares if the power is too?

And when you consider that Subaru do a lovely four stroke class, where do you think all those Honda cadets / parents might go?
