"Tuned" rotax engines are not cheap, even with the new machined barrels there is a lot of performance variation. To keep them on song you will have to have them serviced a lot more often than 4 stroke engines (every 25 hours for a top end and 50 hours for a full rebuild are the norm for mid pack). It took us the best part of 2 years to understand jetting and how to optimise the performance.

Try before you buy, and spend some time with someone who is running 2 stroke so you can see how different it is.
