I think that single file over the start-finish line would still mean that the Honda drivers would have been attempting to go into turn 2 (the deep end of the pool) three or four abreast as is normally the case on that corner at the start of a race.
People who had gone in to the corner sensibly wide would have been collected by the little skipping stones going over the puddle having tried to take a finer line to gain an advantage going up the hill.
I found the abandonment frustrating, but I think that in the circumstances, it was correct.
I'm grateful for the efforts that were made to get it going. I wish it had happened, but mostly, I'm grateful that the ambulance crews had a mercifully boring day.
