TO AWNSER A FEW QUESTIONS:

Massa, That was a coil spring from the 3rd bump

Yes part of the suspension but used to control rear ride height and car pitch

A torsion bar twists a spring will compress and extend, with a small amount of twist

A torsion bar has a spring rate
but does not compress or extend.

I have fitted tried, tested and set many torsion bars in F1 cars

Race car chassis are made as stiff as possible along with every other suspension compoent, ie wishbones, uprights etc, but there is a cross over point against weight etc, before the rules about weight bias came in it was very important as they move ballest to alter the car etc.

But you would be amazed at how much the rear end of a GP car twists and moves when under load, and that includes the engine and gearbox
