Depends what you want. A new out of the box gives you a guarntee for 6 months. and a basic fitch will give enough to learn greater speeds wider kart and technique and a more agressive grid. Dont expect it to complete with the top boys engines though -they are hired or exchange for lottery number cash. A new fitched should do well at club level. If you have a known engine that will meet your specific needs at a price that is within budget you could consider it. When starting in minimax the engine isnt everything to start with, but a reasonable one that you know is legal is a very good start. The 09 barrels were the ones to have and in some cases the new ones out the box were faster that the older fiches ones, but no idea what the new ones are like- you would need to ask around.
