Mojokart, I think you need to do a little more research into how karting actually works. For example you are intending to bulk buy sets of tyres from the manufacturer and then re sell them at less than anyone else currently supplying tyres. Just ask yourself this. Who am I going to sell them to? For example 'Mojo', as your name implies you have some knowledge of these. There are hundreds of competitors out there in the UK using thousands of sets of tyres per season, Great! a pound made on every set will go well towards your current target of Ł35k, Erm well no! Around 90% of your target market will be racing Rotax classes in MSA racing so you can forget any of them to start with as ALL the Rotax classes use a control tyre which has to bear the specific yellow bar code produced solely for JAG Rotax. Ok so you go to JAG Rotax and bulk order, negotiate a discount, ship them to your storage premises, then distribute them on to your customers. Factor in your transport, storage and handling cost add your ONE POUND profit and you will arrive at a cost per set of around Ł100 per set! Add the VAT and guess what you will be selling them at Ł120.00 per set, Therefore you only need to sell 3,500 sets to make your target! GOOD LUCK! You are not going to get the Dragons Den clamouring for a stake in your business plan on those figures.
Oh by the way most of us will sell a set of Mojo's for less than Ł129.15 anyway.
You will rapidly come to the conclusion that your Army salary is a very long way off indeed.
Very few karting retailers, however long they have been trading, are making any huge profits, indeed I could earn more money doing 35hrs a week emptying dust bins for the council as opposed to 70 or 80hrs a week in a kart shop.
Admittedly I could join the 'SHAFTER' group that provoked this thread and rip everyone off once then go on holiday with all of the spare time I would have, but I prefer to offer a fair and proper service and sleep at night.
The only way to stop getting 'Shafted' is to only buy from those who are not constantly trying to prise the pound from your pocket until the shafters eventually give up and go away or are forced to sell their stock at a realistic price.
