What bit do you find so endearing?
The fact pages time out due to the non existance of any housekeeping on the database?
The fact that there appears to be no threads available pre 2008 due to said SQL issues, thus meaning all the old data has been deleted or archived and is not readily available.
The fact threads are impossible to browse because one thread can take up a whole page given the archaic nature of the design, thus giving rise to the same topics being repeated ad infinitum simply because you cant stick any FAQ type threads or current hot topics?
Actually maybe the above point is the truth here - because standard questions cannot be stickied it means a certain hardcore can repeat their stock answers over and over because the very nature of the board does not allow for easy recall of the appropriate material. Thus a sainted few can keep barking on their opinions on a regular basis when the same old questions get asked. I guess that gives them via osmosis a feeling of power over others. However if you want a healthy BB then I would suggest from personal experience these are the very people you dont want moderating a BB.
In the long term I would ask how the site owners manage to gather stats from this site that they can then feedback to their advertisers? Surely the advertisers on this site ask for stats to see how much market penetration they are getting? Without an upgrade to a system thats modern and allows this sort of feedback the owners of this site are not maximising the potential revenue they could be earning. In the overall scheme of things that could potentially outstrip their other revenue streams such as the magazine.
