Selfish to whom? If you have a family then their needs come first no question. BUT if you are single or even have a girlfriend then I dont see an issue with it.

Interest rates will rise but not significantly in the near future and if you are currently paying say Ł350 a month you should pay Ł500 primarily to reduce the capital owed but also to get you used to paying a higher amount should rates rise. If you are fortunate that you are on a tracker then its a fairly safe bet over the next few years BoE rates wont top 2.5% as backed up by most of the mainstream lenders not offering deals better than BoE plus 4%!

This is a prime time for someone to enjoy their disposable income whilst at the same time being prudent and clearing part of their debt.
