Here we go again..... it's about once every 6 months.....
Be CAREFUL about neck braces..... when we discussed this the last time we STILL couldn't find a karting-body (our MSA, CIK, etc.) who recommend neck braces and could only find car-racing bodies who recommend things like the Han neck brace as THEY are held in place during the accident by the seat belt. Yes...... SOME off-road Motor-Cycle bodies recommend them.
It's possible that the 'evidence' has changed since I last searched and that, at last, SOMEbody in karting may be recommending them...... I just can't be BOTHERED to go searching a 4th or 5th time.... If you find a karting body who does recommend a 'Leatt Type' neck brace, I'll stand corrected!
{Please note, the body called 'MSA' in much of the literature, refers to 'Motorsport South Africa' who recommeded Leatt braces WAY back in 2005...... to the best of my knowledge, OUR MSA still hasn't recommended them 6 year later......)
When it became obvious that racing suits saved injuries in karting, the RAC (who became the MSA) recommended them.... as they did for leather suits for long circuit racers, good crash helmets, full face helmets, glove, boots etc. etc.. However, neck braces (like the Leatt) have been around for quite a while. Foam neck braces have ben around longer but S*T*I*L*L we don't find the MSA recommending ANY sort of neck-brace for adults.....
If that doesn't make you wonder WHY then you think differently than I do.....
Last time.... the 'evidence' given by writers here was that that they had had accidents wearing a neck brace and didn't get any whiplash or anything else..... The logic being that if you don't get injured while wearing them, it MUST be the neck brace that saved you......
Oh really.....? Over the years, I have been turned over FAR more times (perhaps 10 to 15 times) than was good for me...... on not a SINGLE occasion did I get ANY neck injury (LOADS of other types of injuries but the neck was FINE)..... How strange that I was N*O*T wearing a neck-brace......... Had I BEEN wearing a neck-brace on one of those occasions... perhaps I, too, would ALSO be claiming: 'the neck brace saved me'........... but that would mean forgetting all the OTHER times when I WASN'T wearing one.....
The facts that you had an accident while wearing a neck-brace and were NOT injured is N*O*T "proof" that it was the neck-brace that saved you......
