Phone in the left hand and hold down the roof with your right hand, steering with the knees.

That's the Essex method.

Karts use so little steering input it's often a matter of comfort.

Fast drivers use both positions without problems.

Use Gaffer tape over the parts of your hands that get blisters.

This allows your hand to move inside the glove and not chafe the skin.

Surgical spirit will harden up your delicate skin and relax your hands on straights when you have the oportunity.
