Nice 'job'!

Can YOU test the stiffness of an axle? We'd love to hear the 'figures'!

I am told that the stiffness of steel (Young's Modulus) is only altered fractionally between the 'mixes' and 'treatments'. I am NOT an engineer so I don't really have clue, except from what I have been told!

We both know that two 'parts' of the degree of flexibilitry of the axle are the 'stiffness' of the metal and the length that can 'flex'. I'd love to know how much you'd need to alter the 'free length' to match the degree of deflection created by changing the axle stiffness. Any chance of measuring that?

Assuming that the 'Youngs modulus' stuff IS a small as has been quoted, then, if you cannot have hollow axles.... you can see why us 'old timers' are sceptical about changed 'axle stiffness' affecting the handling by much!
