Dear Ian whilst I agree with most of what you say and find your posts informative and witty I have to disagree on this one. I was simply passing on the advice which worked for us when we were just starting out in cadets. Like you have said in your previous post they may have the seat to far forward and thus causing the over steer problem on corner entry. What we found with my son was we could not get the pedals back any further and was still out of the manufactures recommended seat positions so we had no choice but to run with the seat forward. I spent hours trying to sort this problem out different length hubs, more weight to the rear, different rear ride heights, moving the hubs in, seat struts, spoiling the front end grip to make the rear end better but after not a lot of success we changed to a hard axle and the problem went straight away. I know an experienced driver will find a very small if any difference in axles stiffness as they can simply drive round the problem, but when we was inexperienced changing the axle transformed our kart and lap times straight away . I think there have been previous posts on here before from cadet fathers saying to run a stiff axle whilst first starting out to give them a hand in the rear end grip department.
Best Regards
Andy
