Just to reitterate what itpro is saying. You could grip the kart up as much as you can on say a YDS tyre or Dunlop DDH, but whenever i have tested, you would always go quicker on say a YGB tyre or a DDS.

It becomes a slightly different story when the track starts to 'rubber up' though, As you will find that the times can start to get a little slower during the day, as they simply start struggling to lift the inside wheel off of the deck!

So theres two different scenarios where you could say you have 'too much grip' however a stickier tyre will almost certainly always go quicker.
