I'll await further replies to see if there is another way to do it otherwise I'll give the return stop method a go ;) The gap is so large its almost like it needs pads almost twice as thick to fill the gap when the pads are pulled right back by the return springs. I know on my brothers Octane kart we had the opposite trouble where new pads were fitted and they were literally touching the disk so we had to shim the caliper to create a small gap until the pads wore down.
