100% agree with NJB. I was just about to write something similiar before I noticed the above post.

Just to add to this, grip levels tend to go up most during the warm up/TQ/Heat 1 session as everyone goes out with new tyres and lays down more rubber making the track alot more grippy than it had been during the practice sessions.

This is most noticeable when racing in a championship with control tyres like S1 and the top guys switch from "point & squirt" to "roll round the bend" very quickly to avoid the kart gripping up/hopping round the bends. Different lines may sometimes be required to avoid the heavily rubbered parts of the track which can send the kart up onto 2 wheels and come to a near stop.
