I didn't get the impression it was fake just that you had to chew a lot of fat to get to the meat but his columns helped me out for sure and its a shame he's not still involved. He did my tkm engines and they were always good and his advice was too.
He would strip the engine, phone you with a breakdown of the condition and give you a price for the work so you knew exactly were you stand. He wasn't interested in being flash etc, he just got a buzz helping people through all the nonsence. To put that in perspective i sent my sons w60 to a very reputable builder last year, it came back with parts i never knew it needed at a big cost and it never sparked. You vote with your feet and i would never use him again but the big guys aren't interested in the likes of me. Chris Cowells was.
You could argue he didn't have any pedigree and was a dinosoaur but you know what, for someone on a budget that absolutely wanted to get the most bangs per buck without listening to all the conflicting info out there he was a good bet. He may of chewed your ear off but by god you got the point he was trying to get across.
It's a real problem this is. More people would stay in karting if they could be on the pace a bit earlier and knew how to maintain their kart so it didn't break down and keep costing money.
Anyone fancy starting a buisness, : ).
