Some excellent points there. Odd that you should mention Chris Cowells. When I posted above about karting msgazine, I was actually thinking about him. A number of years ago now, he spent some time at Three Sisters with his dad, Arthur Cowells, a grand old chap, still raving into his late sixties, and not doing too badly at that........ he must have been quite some competitor back in his day.
However, there was always the concensus around the paddock that Chris's karting magazine column was somewhat 'fake'........as you say, he did go on a bit, much of his articles were 'padding'. But the thoughts around the testing paddock were that, since Chris never appeared to put his bum in a kart whatsoever, but simply watched his dad going round the track in all kinds of weathers, his contributions were gleaned from other text books, rather than personal experience. Unless, of course, he was ghost writing on behalf of Arthur, his dad.......lol.
Personally, as you touch on, I found his articles were a bit like a cheap pie, lots of fresh air, but not much filling.
That tended to be the thought of the 3s paddock at the time.
