"Greed has been on the lips of most and stupid stupid regulation changes."

But be fair, you have to compare like with like.

First most of those karts had about the same performance as a prokart. I was looking at a Historic karting ad from the era advertising a massive 8 horsepower from a top marque engine.

Secondly, since there wasn't the option to race 'indoors' or arrive and drive, many of the people who took it up were the people who now race in the hire kart leagues.

Racing MSA has become a declaration that you are racing 'seriously' and want scrupulously justified decisions, a enforced 'level' playing field and detailed rules.

The MSA started off by separating out the 'fun' drivers and the 'serious' drivers into 'A' licence meetings and 'B' licence meetings but the insistence of some drivers that their winning at 'B' meetings is so important that it has distorted the meaning of the sport.

But it isn't the MSA's fault entirely. The club grids have already lost their 'hire kart' league drivers, the ones without the money or committment to fund the expense of 'front of the pack' racing, and some of the championships have so many rounds that they take up all the budget of the intermediate racers (who arguably should be weeded out by 'qualifier rounds' but aren't for obvious commercial reasons).

I'm not greatly excited by the presence of motorhomes. I travel up to 150 miles to a meeting because my 'local' tracks don't have a grid for me. I'm not going to put up in a tent when I get there, because if I did, my family wouldn't come.

I don't see that the average driver is going to be put off by the fact that he's arrived pulling a trailer while the guy next door has a 35 foot motor home.
