just one or two points from a 250 national short circuit driver.

You mentioned that on the test you should complete a lap within 80% of the fastest time of the day. When I took my test at the beginning of a year, there were no other 250's there that day. Also with the modifications that we are allowed to do in the 250's we have had occasions where the winner in a race is doing 41/42 second laps and the second place is doing 44/45 second laps, let alone a complete novice. There is too much scope for tuning in our class to implement that (in my opinion) when I did my test it was judged on not being silly slow, good kart control, awareness (flags etc) and confidence.

Also regarding building all engines to manufacturers fiche specs, our engines are mx engines not kart engines and you can use quite a few different makes, so again I dont believe this would level the playing field, and 20 hours before replacing a piston, I replace mine every 4 hours max as I am right on the borderline in so far as I suffer a tiny bit of detonation, most of the top guys are also like this (from what I've been told) and so 20 hours would end up in lots of blown pistons and damaged barrels.

If you comments were only for non gearbox classes then fair point and I dont know enough about those classes to comment, but to apply them to gearbox 250 national just wouldnt work. Again, just my opinion.
