I see on the news page that the MSA have been asked to select a female karter to represent the UK in an FIA Women & Motor Sport Commission-backed CIK-FIA competition. Am I the only one who has a problem with this? Our sport is one in which the sexes compete against each other on equal terms. Why have women only events?
MSA Women in Motorsport Group Chairman and FIA Women & Motor Sport Commission member, Sue Sanders, said: "We wholeheartedly support any initiative that helps female drivers to achieve recognition within the sport and this is a great opportunity for a female karter from the UK to display her driving talent on the international stage."
So, do "Women In Motorsport" think that women compare so poorly to men that they want seperate events? Is it only the current low numbers of women that prevent the sport splitting? If so, splitting it would probably be the best way to increase female participation! Can you imagine the fuss if we had a men only event? I don't think the sport should dither around, it should go one way or the other.
Personally, I think women are not as good, on average, as men, but they aren't far enough behind to warrant seperate events since the best women can beat most males!
