All depends on a few things. Is the battery sealed? (I imagine it is} which means that you can't take specific gravity readings of the electrolite (battery acid) to see if it's charged or establish it's condition.
In this case, put the battery on slow charge from a normal charger: 12v or 6v depening on the battery voltage. You should see a fairly high deflection of the "Amp Meter" which should decrease as the battery charges: take off charge when the meter reads "0" or near. Repeat this several times over the course of a week. If the battery doesn't recover, the chances are it's past hope.
Keep them charged from time to time and avoid the expence of replacement.!!! Learned from expensive experience.
