hi daryl, first of all if your profile is correct then your based in staffordshire, your closest MSA tracks are Hooton and 3 sisters, which are in ellesmere port and wigan, there are a few non msa tracks like proiory park and stretton which hold non msa racing, usually 4 stroke karts.

so first off do you want to race or just practice??? if you want to race you can either have a 2 stroke kart, which are run under the msa rules regs etc or race 4 stroke karts (prokarts usually) which is non msa.

if you want to go the 2 stroke route then tkm is definately the way to go, there are 3 main classes, tkm, blue and rotax, tkm is the cheepest of the 3 and has good grids at hooton and 3 sisters. you can also race them in the midlands at whilton mill and a few other tracks. the race weekend is practice saturday and racing sunday...3 heats and a final, usually about 12 laps. if you want to go the 4 stroke route then 3 sisters have 2 hour endurance race held every month on a tuesday night, 20 mins practice, 10 mins qually and 2 hour race.

i used to race in tkm, until the start of the year, budget wise you will need about £2000 to buy a kart, engines, racewear, tools and trailer. then racing for the season costs about £2500, including tyres, engine rebuilds, entry fees etc.

ive just started racing in prokarts as of this year, while they are slower the engines dont need to be rebuilt as often and the tyres last a lot longer...dont know budget wise what it will be yet but probably under £2000 however the equiptment costs more in the first place....kart is 2000-3000

so really if you want cheep, 2 stroke its tkm, 4 stroke its prokarts
