Sounds like you have done it correctly and replaced in the correct order. Dont know if you noticed but the grids are wider at one end and should only fit one way round... but I have known people wedge them in incorrectly. Also worth checking the filter for any tears or larger holes as if checked by scturineers they could fail it.
